The idea for a village sign was mooted as early
as 1998. A lot of research and consultation was done. The Berkshire Woodcarvers,
local group of
talented carvers, had already made an impression with the sculptures
in Clayfield Copse. With the exhibition and book behind us, we had a
wealth of contacts and photos on which to base the sign. Paul Gallagher
did a number of sketches and invited members to vote on the location
of the sign. A number of local groups were invited to have a plaque
on the sign. An unveiling ceremony took place in September 2003.
