Carline Thistle

Carline Thistle is a thistle with a difference. The flowers are brownish-yellow with purplish straw-coloured bracts (leaf-like parts just beneath the flower) radiating out and narrow. They are in flower from mid summer to early autumn and once dead they still resemble their appearance in flower.

On grassland on lime, common in the south, increasingly rare further north.
