Woolly Thistle


The Woolly Thistle is a giant of a thistle with red-purple flowers on top of a very large globular head of cottony, spiny bracts (leaf-like parts), seen from mid summer to early autumn.

Favours calcareous grassland, only sparsely populated in parts of England.
