The appearance of Lesser Celandine gives one of the first indications of the arrival of spring. The narrow petals are glossy yellow, similar to a buttercup, often partly fading to white with time. The heart-shaped leaves are dark green.

In flower from late winter until mid spring, found often in shady places, in woods and hedgerows, but also in open grassland.
