Periwinkle is a type of shrub with blue-violet 5-petalled flowers and broad, rather leathery leaves. The species of Periwinkle, whether Greater or Lesser, is usually determined by the size of the flowers.

Both species in flower from the turn of the year through to mid summer, found in hedge-banks, often in or close to gardens.
