Stinking Iris

Stinking Iris is a distinctive flower and quite obviously a type of Iris. It is dull purplish, brownish yellow towards the centre and has purple veins. Sometimes predominantly yellow. Can also be identified by its acrid smell.

Found mainly in woods and hedge-banks, but also in scrub and sea-cliffs, often on lime in southern England and Wales. In flower around mid summer.
