Prickly Lettuce

Prickly Lettuce is often seen as a tall and very tough garden weed with smallish yellow clusters of dandelion-type flowers and very prickly undersides to the leaves.

It is apparently a common plant in the south east, but rare in the north. In flower from mid to late summer.
